Renaud Muselier
PRESIDENT OF THE REGIONAL COUNCIL OF PROVENCE-ALPES-CÔTE D’AZUR, FRANCE
Renaud Muselier has been President of the South Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur Region since 2017. He is also President of Régions de France and was an MEP from 2014 to 2019.
He is a medical doctor, and is deeply attached to the South and its territories (Provence, the Alps and the Côte d'Azur). He is also very attached to his native city of Marseille, where he was elected to the municipal council on several occasions. The people of Marseilles elected him as a deputy to the National Assembly from 1993 to 2012. He was appointed Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs from 2002 to 2005. He chaired the High Council of the Arab World Institute (IMA) and the Cultural Council of the Union for the Mediterranean (CCUPM). He was President of the Public Development Establishment of national interest Euroméditerranée, one of the largest urban renewal operations in Europe.
Since his arrival at the head of the South Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur Region, Renaud Muselier has been doing everything possible to make the regional authority a reference in terms of sustainable development and the environment, a Region with a COP ahead.
In 2017, he had a regional climate plan adopted, "Une COP d'avance", with 100 concrete actions to make the region carbon neutral by 2030-2050. Today, it is the common thread running through all of the Region's actions in all areas, and mobilises an annual budget of 500 million euros.
The President is thus highlighting a sustainable, attractive, intelligent, connected and internationally recognised region. His ambition: to become the 1st Smart Region in Europe.
